SHAKER CREWS DOMINATE SEASON-OPENING REGATTA

Raiders Win 9 of 12 Races—Sweep Novice Events

In a great start to its season, Shaker Heights Crew won nine of the twelve races in a quadrangular meet against Mt. Lebanon High School, Pine-Richland High School and Mercyhurst Prep School on April 15th at Coraopolis, outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rowing a 1500-meter course on the Ohio River, the Red Raider varsity crews won both Boys and Girls Varsity Eight races, both Boys and Girls Varsity Fours and the Girls Varsity Lightweight Four event. Shaker’s first-year rowers “swept the river,”winning all four novice races—Boys Novice Fours and Eights and Girls Novice Fours and Eights.

The Raiders finished second in two other races, The Boys Junior Four and the Boys Lightweight Varsity Four.

After practicing on the Cuyahoga for two weeks in snow and freezing temperatures, the Shaker rowers enjoyed racing in comfortable-and dry- 70-degree weather in Pennsylvania.

The Raiders next competition is on Dillon Lake near Zanesvile on April 21st against a 30 team field from Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, New York, Illinois and Pennsylvania .
