Multiple Teams · Lady Raiders open season with come-from-behind upset win in OT, 64-63 over Eastlake North

The Shaker Heights Lady Raiders opened their 2017-2018 basketball season on the road at Eastlake North Monday night in an independent match-up vs. the #11-ranked team in the pre-season rankings.

The Lady Raiders were slow to warm up as they trailed 25-14 after one period and 38-27 at the half.  Shaker came out for the 2nd half and outscored the Lady Rangers 18-12 in the 3rd period to cut the deficit to 50-45 heading into the 4th period.  They completed the comeback by outscoring North 14-9 in the 4th period to send the game into overtime.  The Lady Raiders prevailed in OT to get their season off to a rousing start with the upset win.

Leading the way for Shaker was senior Darryn Zeigler who scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.  Kayla Young added 19 points for the Lady Raiders while Anajiah Wallace and Aiysia Saunders each chipped in with 8 points.

Shaker will return to play Wednesday night when they host GCC rival Solon at SHHS.  Freshmen tip-off at 4:30; JV at 6pm and Varsity at 7:30pm.
