Shaker Figure Skaters Compete in Eastern Great Lakes Regional Figure Skating Championships
Six Shaker Heights students competed earlier this month in the 2018 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Figure Skating Championships held this year in Nashville, TN from October 18-22.
Of note, sophomore Maya Hollander placed 4th in her Intermediate Ladies qualifying round to advance to the finals out of over 60 skaters. She skated her short and long program for a combined score of 63.25 and an 18th place overall finish. Maya competes on behalf of the Shaker Figure Skating Club.
Other skaters competing in this year’s qualifying competition included sophomore Caleigh Leiken who placed 10th in her Intermediate Ladies qualifying round freeskate and 8th grader Abigail Harper who placed 8th in her Intermediate Ladies qualifying round freeskate.
Skaters participating in the non-qualifying competition included 7th grader Anna Kate Graban who placed 2nd in her Pre-Juvenile freeskate, 8th grader Caelin Tucker who placed 2nd in her Preliminary Well Balanced freeskate and 6th grader Annabel Coxin who placed 2nd in her Preliminary Well Balanced freeskate.
The 2018 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Figure Skating Championship is one of nine regional skating competitions held each fall throughout the country sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA).
