SHHS Crew Team got their season off to a fast start at the 37th Lindamood Cup Regatta in Marietta, Ohio on April 8th. The Raider Rowers notched three wins, three seconds and three fourth place finishes on the fast-flowing, 1500-meter Muskingum River course competing with ten schools from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Shaker won the men’s point total, and finished overall third in the combined standings for the Cup.
Shaker won the Men’s Novice Eight in a time of 4:47.8. Coxed by Sean Crowley, with Moses Ackerman, Sam Berkson, Lucas Bonilha-Van’t Hof, Finnegan Dale, Will Farrall, Nicholas Lorenzo, Najee Muhammed, and Askiya Shaheed.
Crowley (cox), Ackerman, Bonilha-Van’t Hof, Dale, and Lorenzo came back in the Novice 4 and took second place in that event.
Perhaps the most impressive win of the day was by the Women’s Junior 4, winning by five lengths of open water over second-place Hampton (PA) High School, finishing in 4:46. Casey Lewis coxed with Jenna Cahn, Sophie Calabrese, Gen Fortin, and Olivia Whittier.
The Men’s Junior 4 also won their event, finishing in a time of 4:46.8. Coxed by Ethan Albrecht, with Cory Henderson, Lincoln Luzar, Nathan Murray, and Brayden Skall.
SHHS Seniors Charlie Espy and Creighton Hejduk teamed up for a second-place finish in the Men’s Double. This was the Shaker seniors’ first race in this event.
In the final race of the day, the Men’s Varsity Eight took second place in a time of 4:37. The eight are Ethan Albrecht at cox, with Aidan Baker, Jenson Bayles, Daniel Connors, Cory Henderson, Lincoln Luzar, Nathan Murray, Max Rotatori, and Brayden Skall.
Also scoring points for in the Cup standings with fourth-place finishes were the Women’s Varsity eight, the Women’s Junior 4-B and the Women’s Novice 4, rounding out a very good day of racing for SHHS Crew.
The Raider Rowers return to action on April 22nd in Nashport, Ohio at the Lake Dillon Scholastic Sprints.
