The Shaker field hockey team provided plenty of excitement at the State Field Hockey Tournament at Upper Arlington HS last weekend.  The Raiders defeated Powell Olentangy Liberty  2-1 (OT) in a semifinal game on Friday afternoon.
Freshman  Lora Clarke, broke the ice with a goal that put the Red Raiders up 1-0 with 11:00 left in the first period.  Olentangy Liberty would answer with 5:17 remaining in the first period to make it 1-1 at the half.
After a scoreless second half, Lora Clarke scored the game-winning goal halfway through the first sudden-victory overtime period and after multiple game-saving saves by senior goalie Kandyce Graham, to give Shaker Heights a 2-1 victory and a berth in the state final.
The Raiders faced defending state champion Thomas Worthington in the state championship game on Saturday.   Shaker outshot the Cardinals in the first half narrowly missing on numerous scoring opportunities.  With the game remaining a scoreless tie entering the final 7 minutes of the 2nd half, Thomas Worthington scored what would be the only goal they needed as they went on to defeat the Raiders 3-0.
The Raiders finished the season in strong fashion defeating #1 seeeded Magnificat in overtime in the District semifinals; rival Hudson in overtime in the District Final; and Olentangy Liberty in overtime is the State semifinal before falling in the State Championship game.
Great season ladies!
