Six Shaker wrestlers entered the OHSAA Division I Wrestling tournament at Mentor HS on Friday and Saturday and came out with 2 State Qualifiers, Tyson Long at 120 lbs. and Farouq Muhammed at 145 lbs.

The Raiders started Day 1 with Tyson Long, Joe Marino, James Callahan, Jakee Frazier, Farouq Muhammed and Sam Meinhard all hitting the mats in an attempt to make it through the very competitive tournament known as the “Meatgrinder”.

Long, Marino, Muhammed and Meinhard all advanced to Day 2.  Meinhard and Marino bowed out in the consolation brackets after strong showings.  Long advanced to the 3rd place finals which earned him an automatic bid the State tournament and then won his final match to finished 3rd in the Districts at 120 lbs.  Muhammed advanced to the finals at 145 lbs. and finished as the runner-up but also qualified for the State tournament next weekend in Columbus.

Congratulations to all the Raider wrestlers for an outstanding showing at the Districts and good luck to Farouq and Tyson at States!
