The Shaker boys basketball team traveled to Lake County Wednesday night to take on the rival Mentor Cardinals for a Greater Cleveland Conference match-up.

The Cardinals got off to a fast start taking a 21-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Mentor continued to increase their lead in the 2nd quarter and led at the half, 48-27.

The Raiders, however, didn’t quit and began to chip away at the lead by outscoring Mentor 24-17 in the 3rd quarter to trail 65-51.  The Raiders erupted for 37 points in the 4th quarter to come all the way back to within 1 with :05 seconds left.  Mentor split a pair of free throws to go up by 2.  With :04 seconds remaining, Isiah Wright dribbled up court and and banked in a half-court shot to complete the comeback and stun the host crowd.

Amani Redus lead 5 double figure scorers for the Raiders with 20 points.  Jordan Burge added 15 points with George Evans and Isiah Wright each scoring 11 and J’Van Beasley 10.

The raiders return home Friday night to face the Strongsville Mustangs in another GGC contest at 7:30pm.
